Skills and competences targeted
The Sigma master course aims to train specialists in geomatics applied to environmental and spatial planning questions. The students are prepared for a seamless employability.
This preparation implies a profound and complete knowledge of GIS and image analysis functions, as well as core computer science skills. Furthermore, it necessitates the thorough knowledge of spatial database conception, structuration and exploitation. The students are expected to apply these skills and knowledge to solve problems in a wide diversity of environments and contexts, often multidisciplinary and innovative.
Beyond the mastering of the tools, this preparation for the labor market aims to provide a real capacity to define and adapt the geomatics resources to the projects objectives (project management), in spatial planning and environment management domains. It also implies the development of skills in complex structures management and a sensibility to social and ethics implications of professional work.
Via a preserved link with the professional sector, surveys and labor market studies, our educational team is aware that the students of our master course will probably be the only geomatics specialist in their company or administration. Autonomy and communication skills are therefore important. They are exercised during the projects and the several restitution phases of the course.
Business sectors and professions targeted
The Sigma master course answers a social demand in spatial planning and environmental management. The relevant occupations (local communities and authorities, engineering consultants, service companies, …) require a dual competency : a sound knowledge of spatial data management and processing and a good grasp of the institutions, the regulations and the management procedures in those domains.
The course aims to train managers, engineers, planners, researchers, project managers, experts combining these skills to facilitate their entry into the professional world.
An experience of more than ten years built a dense network of relations with alumni, in professional work and research. This active network helps the educational team to define the interesting sectors and employment opportunities for our students.
Three professional profiles can be defined for the student employment opportunities:
- Engineer in charge of studies, study manager, researcher or policy officer, working with local authorities, semi-public firms, urban planning services, natural parks, chambers of commerce… They are often tasked with the definition, conception and management of the GIS and the interface between technicians and researchers or policy managers.
- Engineer or engineering project manager involved in engineering consulting or research services.
- "Expert" with international organizations (UNEP, WHO…) or non-profit organizations.
Research training
The majority of the courses are taught by members of one of the three research laboratories supporting the master’s program :
- GEODE (Géographie de l'ENvironnement, Geography of Environement), UMR 5602 UT2-CNRS
- DYNAFOR (Dynamiques et écologie des paysages agriforestiers, Dynamics and ecology of the agricultural and forest landscapes), UMR 1201 INPT/ENSAT-INRA
- LISST-CIEU (Centre Interdisciplinaire d'Études Urbaines, Interdisciplinary center of urban studies), UMR 5193 UT2-CNRS.
These research centers cover the main themes of the master course in applied geomatics : environmental management and spatial planning.
The "Geomatics as a scientific subject" cpurse was created in 2011. It aims to expose the implications, explore the issues and methods of geomatics in scientific research.
Research training and research by training are also present in the "geomatic workshops" where small group of students manage projects with tutoring. The projects are of professional or research type. The scientific ones are closely linked to the research programs of the supporting laboratories.
Moreover, the 4 to 6-month long internship offers possibilities of research training. A training agreement can be provided by a research laboratory and lead to a written essay, the preparation for a potential doctoral thesis work.
The master students willing to pursue research work can rely on the scientific networks of the professors and their labs.
Lifelong training and continued education
Up to one fourth of the student positions are reserved for continued training.

Diplomas de acceso
El acceso al Master 2 Geomática SIGMA es posible para los estudiantes que tienen uno de los diplomas siguientes :
- Master 1 / Maestría de Geografía
- MST y IUP de ordenación
- MIAGe
- Diploma de ingeniero en Agronomía, en informática o justificando de un nivel Bachillerato + 4 de las Grandes Escuelas de Ingenieros
- Otras maestrías y diplomas que tienen como equivalencia Bachillerato + 4 validado por la Comisión de los Títulos del establecimiento capacitado
Los candidatos que no tienen uno de los diplomas evocados arriba, pero justificando de una actividad profesional capaz de otorgarle una calificación equivalente, pueden ser autorizados a matricularse después de la decisión de la comisión de validación de las experiencias profesionales (Validation des Acquis Professionnels = VAP).
Importante : Pueden presentarse a la formación sin tener el diploma de acceso durante el periodo de candidatura y de selección. Sin embargo, la admisión definitiva al Master SIGMA supeditada al obtención del diploma antes del comienzo de la formación.

Modalidades de selección
La selección de los candidatos se efectúa en 2 fáses :
- Una preselección con el expediente de candidatura , tomando en cuenta sobre todo la calidad de los diplomas, la realización de prácticas profesionales, la argumentación de la carta de presentación, el interés del proyecto profesional y el CV ; los candidatos preseleccionados son entonces convocados, por correo, a una entrevista en Toulouse
- Una entrevista delante el tribunal, que permite facilitar complementos de informaciones relacionadas con el expediente, evaluar la motivación de los candidatos, la pertinencia y el realismo de su proyecto, su conocimiento del medio profesional, las aptitudes morales necesarias al ejercicio de sus futuras responsabilidades profesionales.
Los candidatos definitivamente seleccionados son avisados por correo a principios de julio. La lista de admisión definitiva, y una lista suplementaria son fijadas en los carteles en el vestíbulo de informaciones de cada establecimiento capacitado.
Los candidatos admitidos deben enviar, ha vuelta de correo, una confirmación de aceptación, con fecha e asignatura. Después del 15 de julio, cada confirmación que no sea reexpedida (matasellos de los Correos dando fe) ocasiona la anulación de la admisión. Pues entonces se escoge a los estudiantes inscritos en la lista suplementaria, éstos últimos tienen que confirmar por escrito su aceptación dentro del plazo especificado en la notificación.

Admission
Diplômes d'accès
L'accès au Master Géomatique SIGMA est possible aux deux niveaux, M1 et M2 (avec seulement quelques places pour compléter la formation M1 montante).
Master 1 : les candidat(e)s doivent être titulaires d’une Licence (bac +3) ou équivalent, notamment d’une des mentions suivantes (liste non exhaustive) : Géographie et aménagement ; Sciences de la vie ; Sciences de la terre ; Sciences de la vie et de la terre ; Informatique ; Sciences pour l'ingénieur
Master 2 : SIGMA est ouvert aux candidat(e)s ayant une compétence initiale en géomatique, notamment en SIG, télédétection, cartographie, conception de bases de données, programmation (python), développement web et titulaires d'un des diplômes suivants :
- Master 1 en Géographie ou Géomatique
- Master 1 en Informatique
- Master 1 en écologie avec orientation numérique (géomatique, statistique, modélisation)
- Diplôme d'Ingénieur (2A) en Agronomie, en Informatique ou justifiant un niveau Bac + 4 des Grandes Écoles d'Ingénieurs
- Autres diplômes ayant une équivalence Bac + 4 validée par la Commission des Titres de l'établissement habilité.
Les candidat(e)s non titulaires de l'un des diplômes précédents, mais justifiant d'une activité professionnelle susceptible de leur conférer une qualification équivalente, peuvent être autorisés à s'inscrire après décision de la commission de validation des acquis professionnels (VAP).
Important :
- Vous pouvez candidater à la formation sans être en possession du diplôme d'accès durant la période de candidature et de sélection. Cependant, l'admission définitive au Master SIGMA est subordonnée à l'obtention du diplôme avant le début de la formation courant septembre (voir le calendrier de la formation ci-dessous).
- Les candidat(e)s relevant de la procédure "Études en France / CampusFrance" (non ressortissants français résidant hors de France) doivent obligatoirement candidater :
- Pour le niveau M1 : via la procédure "Études en France"
- Pour le niveau M2 : en parallèle à leur dossier CampusFrance, directement sur notre formation selon les modalités décrites ci-dessous

Pour le niveau de candidature M2, un guide précisera comment se connecter sur le site de dépôt, se créer un compte en tant que candidat(e), constituer à son rythme le dossier (informations administratives, CV détaillé, lettre de motivation décrivant le projet professionnel, descriptif du cursus universitaire avec copie des diplômes et relevés de notes, expérience professionnelle telle que stages et emplois en rapport avec la formation, ...) et transmettre le dossier électroniquement avant la date-limite (cf. calendrier ci-dessous).

Modalités de sélection
La sélection des candidat(e)s s'effectue en 2 phases :
- Une présélection sur dossier de candidature, prenant notamment en considération l'excellence académique, la réalisation de stages professionnels et/ou projets, l'argumentation de la lettre de motivation, l'intérêt du projet professionnel et le CV ; les candidats présélectionnés peuvent alors être convoqués à un entretien

Un entretien éventuel devant le comité de sélection (cf. date ci-dessous) permettant d'apporter des compléments d'informations relatives au dossier, d'évaluer la motivation des candidats, la pertinence et le réalisme de leur projet, leur connaissance du milieu professionnel, les aptitudes morales nécessaires à l'exercice de leurs futures responsabilités professionnelles. Les entretiens pour les candidats non-locaux seront réalisés à distance par visio-conférence.
Les candidats sont informés de la décision d'admission dans les jours suivant les derniers entretiens.
Les candidats admis doivent retourner une confirmation d'acceptation dans les 72h après la notification sur eCandidat.L'absence de confirmation dans le délai indiqué entraîne l'annulation automatique de l'admission. Il est alors fait appel aux candidats inscrits sur la liste complémentaire, ceux-ci devant à leur tour confirmer leur acceptation dans le délai spécifié sur la notification.

Candidates with professional experience equivalent to the required qualifications can be evaluated by the registration of the master.
One can apply to the master’s program without holding the access diploma at the date of application, but the final admission requires effective graduation.

Selection procedures
The selection of candidates comprises two phases:
- A pre-selection of application files, taking into account the quality of the diplomas, the professional or research internships, the argumentation of the motivations letter, the professional project and the CV. The pre-selected candidates are informed by email and summoned to a hearing in Toulouse.
- A jury hearing to complement the application file, especially about the professional project of the candidates, their grasp of the employment opportunities and their aptitudes of character and mentality.
The selected candidates are informed by email in early July. A waiting list is established.
The selected candidates must confirm their acceptation of the selection by postal mail before the 15th of July. After this date, each candidate who has not confirmed their acceptation is removed from the list and the first candidate from the waiting list is called.
